Kitchen Safety

Kitchen safety is our top priority at H’s Bakes, and we want you to feel safe with your kids in the kitchen. Here are some simple tips to get you started on keeping your little ones safe while baking.

Clean

Keeping a clean workspace is important so there is no contamination of food and so clean up is easier later on. But, it’s more important to wash your hands frequently! Clean hands mean tastier treats, and you can never wash them often enough. You can demonstrate this by washing your hands frequently.

Tidy

A tidy workspace allows for less accidents in the kitchen. Make sure any long hair is pulled back, no one is wearing any jewelry, and there are no handles or utensils hanging off of the edge of the counter. These are common mistakes that can lead to large accidents and injury. You can demonstrate this by making it a part of the baking routine to take off all jewelry, tie up hair, and put on an apron.

Knowledgeable

It’s best to remain knowledgeable about any equipment you are using before you use it. You can demonstrate this to your kids by telling them about equipment before you use it and emphasizing any dangers it may possess, such as the oven and the potential to burn yourself.
